"Circles" is a track with a rich backstory. It all began with a blend of sounds that evoke a sense of circular movement. These sounds also resonate with memories of a beloved ride at Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen, Denmark, called "The Flying Trunk." This dark ride takes visitors on a continuous journey through scenes from fairy tales by H.C. Andersen. The track's opening and closing mirror the boarding and disembarking process, while everything in between represents different scenes or rooms. The interpretation of these scenes is left entirely to the listener and may not necessarily align with the fairy tales depicted in the ride.
There's also a deeply personal connection to this track. Tivoli Gardens holds fond memories of family outings, particularly with my mother. Sadly, she passed away in 1995, the same year the attraction opened. The track's creation coincided with plans to commemorate the 25th anniversary of her passing in 2020, which were thwarted by the COVID-19 lockdown. Perhaps this unexpected turn of events subconsciously influenced the track's development, as it was crafted between September - October 2020 and completed in February - March 2021. he video accompanying "Circles" features footage recorded from the front of the Copenhagen Metro train. These clips have been creatively manipulated with a mesmerising "kaleidoscope" effect, offering glimpses of the underground tunnels, train stops, and other intriguing details. Experience it firsthand and embark on a visual journey of discovery! |
